In 2011 a former alley cat in Rome, Italy, inherited thirteen million dollars when it’s 94 year-old owner passed away. Tommaso the cat received not only cash, but properties in Rome, Mian, and elsewhere. It seems outrageous, doesn’t it? Who would leave such wealth to a creature who could not possibly comprehend the riches it has received or know what to do with them? And why?
Pastor Kevin's Devotional Thoughts

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” (Ephesians 1:18,19 NIV)
However eccentric it no doubt seems to us, this woman loved her pet and wanted to ensure that its every need would be supplied. She had the means to do that, and motivated by her love, she did so regardless of the humble nature and origin of the recipient.

God has left us, Paul tells us, a glorious inheritance of riches. That inheritance includes eternal life with him, and as Isaac Watts wrote in his hymn, "Come We that Love the Lord,"

“The hill of Zion yields
a thousand sacred sweets
before we reach the heavenly fields,
or walk the golden streets.”
Don't miss this gorgeous, stirring rendition of "Come We That Love the Lord" - it brings this simple, old hymn to glorious life again!

Why would God leave such a rich inheritance to us? We are hardly more able to comprehend it than Tommaso the Cat is able to invest his $13 million profitably. The answer is simple: God loves us, and in his love, desires to meet our every need. And just as Tommaso's owner became known for her decision to leave her wealth in such a manner, God will be glorified throughout all eternity for his love in bestowing on us – unworthy as we are – the riches of his grace.
